History
Despite not being able to tie my own shoes until I was 8, I somehow managed to get myself through a bit of post-secondary... though just barely. My escapades in College left nothing to the imagination. I roomed with my childhood friend, Curtis Tarr, for about 6 months until I realized that there wasn't enough "Programming" in Computer Engineering and that I wanted to take something more applicable to my desires. Hence, a 6 month non-qualifying work term began (read: dropped out), and I took it upon myself to take Computer Information Systems the following year. Fast forward 2 years, a time filled with a term as Student council Vice-president and all the debauchery associated with a position of power, and you will find a young Aaron Jones striking out into the "Real World"
I worked for an IBM affiliate in Regina, Sask. for about a year and a half before striking it out on my own as a consultant. In October of 1998, JCC Inc. was born!
I started consulting to the Department of learning, and then really got burning the midnight oil when I picked up a second contract with Sasktel Securtek. Many sleepless nights were had, but I was alive with dreams of grandure. We had one of the first online computer retail stores back in 1999, and we were making lots of money with it too... until we got taken for thousands of dollars worth of product. Our first experience with internet fraud nearly shut us down, and worse yet, nearly killed my entrepreneurial drive.
I spent a great deal of time in these early years with 2 friends in particular. Curtis Tarr, a life-long friend and constant backdrop to most of my shinanigans, and John Park, a "wiley vet" of sorts who was a few years Curtis and my senior with a flare for adolescent style fun.
This all came to a slowed pace, of course, with the birth of my first son, Samuel. With Sam's birth I had a renewed sense of youth and an engages sense of responsibility. We went to the park religiously, and always found time to play some form of make-shift basketball. (Sam was a basketball fanatic from an absurdley early age)
Fast forwar a few years, a few failed startups, a divorce and a number of contracts later, I decide to finally re-enter the computer hardware sales game that had kicked my ass previously. I managed to talk my friend, Kent Mayoh, to run the very first JCC Computer Centre.
Entry into the computer retail space was tough... real tough. We managed to scrape by month after month, and watched several competitors come and go, but we never really made overwhelming profits. Eventually, Kent had to pay attention to the call of opportunity and got an excellent position with the Government. Losing Kent after 4 years of working together was the kick I needed to alter my way of thinking about business. I only wish I could have jarred myself into that altered state of mind before losing Kent... he was really good at what he did!
Thankfully, I took many lessons from years of mediocre business performance and have injected some life back into my entrepreneurial spirit.
In the 6 months after the birth of my Son, Zander, I have managed to take JCC Computer Centre back to the basics and build it into a self-sustaining business. A large part of the turnaround has to do with biting the bullet and paying for a Marketing mentor & mastermind group. As part of being in that group I also managed to win 2 contests that have essentially negated much of the associated cost (one of which is a trip to Costa Rica.... good bye cold weather come February!!)
With the startup of AJones corporation, the purchase of dozens of domain names (each with a different business idea behind it), and entry into real-estate investing. There isn’t a day that goes by that JCC Inc and AJones Corp can be accused of spinning it’s wheels! One of the domain names that I purchased recently is “SerialActionpreneur.com”... I think that name says it all!
